Browline

FINALLY FOUND the time to have my prescription lenses ground for the new pair of browline glasses I had ordered online. The fit is perfect, and I like it.

My optometrist's shop was closed for the day, so I went to another store, which was just as accommodating. This optometrist was a young woman who thought I was still in high school. It turned out I was even a year older than her. She was profusely apologetic. I told her it happens to me all the time, especially if I wear shorts, T-shirt, and a brown cap—my standard uniform since kindergarten.

New eyeglasses spell happiness for me, albeit momentarily, because I soon forget I have a new pair on and therefore look slightly different to many people, who can't figure out what the difference is.

But enough of me. On my way home I heard a little girl who, after being coaxed by her mother, repeated Cherie Gil's famous line, "You are nothing but a second-rate, trying-hard copycat," to her father, whom she slapped in the face eventually. A promising actress, that kid. Her mother should warn her not to do that to anyone else, or she'll be in deep trouble—especially if she goes to med school, which has enough drama of its own.
