Songs before the battle
AFTER MY MORNING reading ritual I listened to Wes Montgomery's Round Midnight at 5 am.
I also enjoyed Lionel Hampton's Flying Home.
The alarm woke my roommate BJ up at around six. I jolted him with a giddy good morning and started streaming my chosen songs for internship: Color It Red's Paglisan and Lani Misalucha's Tila. He laughed at my OPM song choices, but I explained that the lyrics spoke to me the way only soulful songs can.

Lani was singing about love, of course, but the song felt like a big metaphor for med school. It, too, shall pass.
